Maharashtra EV Policy 2025: The Best Time to Go Electric!

ev news ev news

Great news for current and future EV owners! On 23 May 2025, the Government of Maharashtra officially launched its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, packed with benefits that make owning an EV more rewarding than ever.
Whether you already own an EV or are planning to buy one, here’s a detailed breakdown of what the policy brings for you:
1. Massive Subsidies for Buyers
• Two-Wheelers:
First 1 lakh electric two-wheeler buyers will receive a 10% subsidy, up to ₹10,000.
• Four-Wheelers:
First 10,000 electric car buyers will get a 10% subsidy, up to ₹1.5 lakh.
These subsidies are over and above central government benefits like FAME-II, making EVs more affordable than ever.
2. Toll Exemption on Major Highways
EV owners will enjoy toll-free travel until 2030 on key routes:
• Mumbai–Pune Expressway
• Samruddhi Mahamarg
• Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link)
The government also plans to extend toll exemptions to other state highways under PWD.
3. 100% Exemption on Road Tax & Registration FeesThe state will continue to offer full waivers on road tax and registration fees for EVs. This can save buyers an additional 10–15% on the overall cost.🔹 4. Major Boost to Charging Infrastructure• Government will set up charging stations every 25 km along highways and in urban areas.• Private operators setting up EV charging stations will receive a 15% capital subsidy.• Targeted installations include:• 1,500 charging points in Mumbai• 500 in Pune• 150 in Nagpur• 2,500+ across other cities This addresses a key concern for EV users – charging availability and range confidence.

5. Support for EV Manufacturing
To lower future EV costs, the government is also giving subsidies and incentives to EV manufacturers. This will reduce production costs and likely make EVs more affordable even after the initial buyer subsidies are claimed.
6. EV Push in Public Transport & Fleets
• Aim: Convert 25% of public transport and fleet vehicles to EVs by 2025.
• MSRTC (state transport) plans to convert 15% of its fleet to electric.
• Fleet operators will also benefit from targeted subsidies and incentives.
7. Green Targets & Environmental Impact
The policy aims to:
• Make 30% of new vehicle registrations electric by the end of 2025.
• Reduce PM2.5 emissions by 325 tonnes.
• Cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1 million tonnes annually.
Final Thoughts: Why Now Is the Best Time
If you’ve been considering an EV, this is the perfect time to buy:
• Massive savings upfront
• Long-term running cost benefits
• Toll-free driving
• Eco-friendly travel
• Ever-expanding charging network
Maharashtra is leading the EV revolution in India — and you can be part of it.
Policy Validity:
Currently applicable only in Maharashtra, but similar policies may roll out in other states soon.
